Theamanda's Figs

oil on canvas, 36"x48", 2019

The goal was simply to paint again. References came from old magazines and photos, things seen in my apartment and on my runs, and stills from TV I was watching at the time. Midway through, a coworker gave me some figs from her tree. They were the first fresh figs I’d seen. Shortly after the coworker left. I can’t remember if I had the chance to show her this painting. I see it as a tether to her and that moment in time.

Come as You Are, Pay as You Go

12.31.18

On New Year’s Eve, I ran to Discovery Park with a backpack of materials and fashioned this around driftwood roots. The act served as a recommitment to my well-being and art. The title is lent from Laurie Anderson’s song, O Superman.
