The Sentinel Series (2018-2020) were wearable pieces, each a salve for grief or an armor of personal growth I wanted to foster. They came together quickly, after a period of not making and a displacement from home. In both material sourcing and documentation locations, they helped me feel rooted in a new place.
My paintings often begin with collages of images from my runs (public space), my home and homes of loved ones (personal space), and film photos of experiences with friends (relational space). All these spaces swirl around and through each other, changing with time and memory. I want to capture some of these fleeting exchanges.
Quilting is a new love of mine. I love the breaking and rebuilding of cutting and combining—like building muscle or sense of self.
